Pony Camp

Day Pony Camps!

Thank you to everyone who came for the Valentine Pony Camp! We had a blast! All our Valentine campers had a great time pretending to be wild birds looking for food in the winter. Our winning team collected 33 pieces of food. (Colored yarn.) After that we followed deer, Turkey, raccoon and rabbits tracks in the snow and found several dens! What a great morning at Nottingham Nature Nook!

2019 Summer Pony Camps Information

Camp Program

Each day of camp will include grooming and tacking of one of our well-trained ponies or DSC01659-1horses for a one hour mounted lesson. The lessons will work on improving riders’ balance and position as well as coordination with their horses in different riding patterns and exercises. Immediately after their lesson, campers will enjoy a short, relaxing trail ride around the farm.

The remaining camp hours will be filled with both educational and recreational activities. Horse educational topics include presentations from our barn farrier and visiting veterinarians on horse health issues. Other topics taught by our camp counselors include breeds of horses, color and markings, parts of tack and the horse, horse behavior, care and feeding, and horse sense and safety. Recreational activities include daily arts and crafts projects, a variety of games using newly learned horse skills.

Nature 4 Kids!

The kids enjoyed the Kids 4 Nature program so much last year, it is now a regular part of camp! This flow-learning system will encourage campers to become stewards of the earth, water, trees, and wildlife at Nottingham Nature Nook. By creating and encouraging passion and respect for nature both the children and the nature they protect will find peace together.
